Network member NECHAMA- Jewish Response to Disaster is the only national Jewish organization that offers sustained direct recovery services to respond to damage caused by hurricanes and other natural disasters. NECHAMA has deployed to western North Carolina in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The storm destroyed tens of thousands of homes in the region, left millions without power, majorly damaged roads, and, tragically, has taken the lives of over 225 people.

Over the next six months, NECHAMA will provide critical aid to homeowners through debris and tree removal, stripping moldy walls down to the studs, clearing out homes for reconstruction, and much more.

For this work to be successful, NECHAMA requires hundreds of volunteers to participate in this deployment, recruiting most from synagogues, Hillels, federations, Jewish youth movements, JCCs, and other communal institutions, as well as those who are non-organizational and “Just Jewish” (as well as friends who may not be Jewish).

Please email stephan.kline@nechama.org if you would like to be NECHAMA’s deployment contact for your organization and potentially will bring a delegation to NC. If you or your colleagues intend to deploy, sign up HERE. If you have any questions, please reach out to shlomo@nechama.org.
