Tamar Wyte Lake Joins The Network as Crisis Response Program Manager

The Network is thrilled to announce Tamar Wyte Lake as the Crisis Response Program Manager. In this pivotal role, Tamar will focus on strengthening member agencies’ capacity for crisis preparedness and response. With her dedication to creating and sharing tools and resources, Tamar aims to empower non-experts in emergency management and foster local champions for disaster preparedness across The Network.

Tamar is a recognized subject matter expert on older adults and disasters, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new position. Her clinical background as a physical therapist (2001-2008) and her extensive tenure as a health research scientist and Associate Director of Clinical Research (2020-2024) at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veterans Emergency Management Evaluation Center (VEMEC) have shaped her career. During this time, she focused on pragmatic tool development and dissemination, which has been successfully implemented nationwide by the VA.

Over nearly two decades, Tamar has spearheaded large-scale qualitative research projects, identifying and addressing critical public health issues. Her work has resulted in over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and presentations, cementing her status as a thought leader in her field. She also recently concluded a three-year term as co-Convener of the Gerontological Society of America’s Older Adults and Disaster Special Interest Group.

Tamar’s academic credentials include a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California and a Master of Public Health from the University of California, Los Angeles. She is based in Portland, OR, where she continues to serve as a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Family Medicine at the Oregon Health and Science University. Additionally, Tamar is actively involved in her community, serving on the Boards of the Mittleman Jewish Community Center, Portland Jewish Academy, and the Eastside Jewish Commons.
