Sacred Spaces is excited to announce that with generous funding from the Sephardic Foundation on Aging, it is hosting its second Seivah cohort dedicated to helping older Jewish adults age with dignity and autonomy and prevent elder abuse.
This virtual cohort is open to 10–15 professionals working at Jewish organizations across the United States who are interested in enhancing their recognition, response, and prevention of elder abuse at their own organizations or in their community.
Cohort participants will come together for 3 learning sessions and 3 community of practice sessions. There is also an option for members to implement a small project in their organization or community with the support of an $800 stipend.
The learning sessions are led by experts and provide cohort members opportunities to learn strategies to minimize elder abuse while maintaining dignity and autonomy of older adults. Some of the topics being discussed include:
-
Jewish text and values to frame elder abuse prevention strategies.
-
Recognizing signs of abuse and neglect and understanding barriers to disclosure.
-
Utilizing a trauma-informed lens to speak to older adults when there are concerns about abuse and neglect.
-
Ways Jewish organizations can be sources of health and resiliency for older adults.
-
Building community responses and networks.
