SUMMARY:NETGroup: Holocaust Survivor Services Professionals
DESCRIPTION:Topic: Post Pandemic – A Conversation Focused on How We Are Using Technology to Address Social Isolation and Loneliness \nSelfhelp’s Virtual Senior Center (VSC) offers one promising model. The platform is designed specifically for Holocaust survivors\, with dedicated English- and Russian-language spaces\, and includes a wide range of offerings such as educational and wellness classes\, virtual museum tours across NYC and the country\, Shabbat programming\, and virtual holiday celebrations. Importantly\, the VSC is available to survivors beyond the New York area. \nMany other Jewish Family Service agencies are also leveraging technology in creative ways to keep survivors connected\, engaged\, and cared for. This session will create a space for agencies to share the specific platforms\, programs\, and practices they are using—what’s working\, what challenges they’ve encountered\, and how these tools can be adapted or scaled across communities. \nLet’s learn from and with each other!

SUMMARY:NETTalk: Enhanced Client Supportive Services to Empower Jewish Cancer Survivors
DESCRIPTION:Cancer and its treatment affect more than a patient’s physical health and can often lead to decreased quality of life\, impacting a patient’s mental\, emotional and financial well-being. \nSupportive care is a critical piece of the cancer experience and is designed to address\, among other things\, the psychosocial\, spiritual\, and emotional effects of cancer and cancer treatment. \nJoin Sharsheret and the Network for a one-hour training to explore what offering supportive services can look like as we empower professionals across The Network with the tools\, language and resources necessary to better support and guide local cancer patients. \nAlso included will be information about a grant funded opportunity for a learning cohort focused on supportive cancer care that will be open for applications on January 15th\, after the NETTalk. \nSharsheret\, a Jewish not-for-profit organization\, provides personalized support\, lifesaving education\, financial assistance and genetic counseling to empower those faced with or at increased genetic risk of breast cancer and ovarian cancer. \nWhile our expertise is in young women and Jewish families as related to breast cancer and ovarian cancer\, Sharsheret programs serve all women and men. \n \nMelissa K. Rosen\, Sharsheret’s Director of Training and Education\, holds a master’s degree in Jewish Professional Leadership from Brandeis University and has been working in the non-profit sector for over 30 years. Her professional experience includes informal education and programming\, advocacy\, and community outreach. She also manages the Sharsheret’s Community Partnerships. Herself a two-time cancer survivor\, she is passionate about the Jewish community and cancer support and advocacy. \n \nBonnie Beckoff\, Sharsheret’s Director of Support Services\, is a graduate of Fordham University School of Social Work and has a background in outreach clinical services.
