SUMMARY:NETTalk: Bridging End-of-Life Care: Chevra Kadisha & Community Partners
DESCRIPTION:Join Kavod v’Nichum for a dynamic session introducing the work of Chevra Kadisha\, the groups of volunteers who care for the deceased and comfort the living\, as a vital part of communal care systems. This workshop invites human service professionals to explore how we might better align efforts around grief\, dignity\, and end-of-life support. \nWe’ll cover: \n\nWhat a Chevra Kadisha is (and isn’t)\, and how practices vary across Jewish communities\nHow Chevra Kadisha functions as a volunteer-based model of sacred care and mutual responsibility\nPoints of overlap: grief\, accompaniment\, dignity\, ritual\, and presence\nWhere gaps exist in communal end-of-life care and how we might bridge them\nWays to collaborate\, refer\, and support one another across roles\nHow to find local Chevra Kadisha groups using our national directory\nTime to ask questions\, ideate\, and leave with one actionable step for deeper collaboration\n\nWhether you’ve worked closely with Chevra Kadisha or are learning about it for the first time\, this session will offer insight\, inspiration\, and connection. Please share any questions IN ADVANCE by October 16th. \nPresenters: \n \nDr. Patricia Cluss was a founding member in 2004 of the New Community Chevra Kadisha of Greater Pittsburgh. Professionally\, she is a clinical psychologist and a retired faculty member of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine\, Department of Psychiatry. Pat recently retired from her longtime private practice and is focusing on her volunteer work in the Jewish community\, including Kavod v’Nichum\, acting as co-coordinator of her local chevra\, and serving lunches via the Pittsburgh JCC AgeWell program. \n \nSarit Wishnevski is the Executive Director of Kavod v’Nichum\, a North American nonprofit dedicated to empowering\, educating\, and training Chevra Kadisha – sacred communities that come together at the end of life to care for the deceased and comfort the living through Jewish rituals and traditions. A trained end-of-life Doula and thought leader in Jewish end-of-life care\, Sarit is passionate about adapting ancestral wisdom for modern communities. She brings a background in Jewish education\, leadership development\, and nonprofit innovation to her work. \nSubmit your questions in advance by October 16. \n  \n \nThis program is made possible by Galaxy Digital\, creators of Get Connected Volunteer Technology. Get Connected supports one of the world’s largest volunteer networks – empowering over 400 Volunteer Centers\, 60\,000+ nonprofit organizations\, and millions of volunteers. The Get Connected product suite is purpose-built for organizations of all types and provides leading tools for volunteer recruitment\, engagement\, and tracking.
