DESCRIPTION:Cancer and its treatment affect more than a patient’s physical health and can often lead to decreased quality of life\, impacting a patient’s mental\, emotional and financial well-being. \nSupportive care is a critical piece of the cancer experience and is designed to address\, among other things\, the psychosocial\, spiritual\, and emotional effects of cancer and cancer treatment. \nJoin Sharsheret and the Network for a one-hour training to explore what offering supportive services can look like as we empower professionals across The Network with the tools\, language and resources necessary to better support and guide local cancer patients. \nAlso included will be information about a grant funded opportunity for a learning cohort focused on supportive cancer care that will be open for applications on January 15th\, after the NETTalk. \nSharsheret\, a Jewish not-for-profit organization\, provides personalized support\, lifesaving education\, financial assistance and genetic counseling to empower those faced with or at increased genetic risk of breast cancer and ovarian cancer. \nWhile our expertise is in young women and Jewish families as related to breast cancer and ovarian cancer\, Sharsheret programs serve all women and men. \n \nMelissa K. Rosen\, Sharsheret’s Director of Training and Education\, holds a master’s degree in Jewish Professional Leadership from Brandeis University and has been working in the non-profit sector for over 30 years. Her professional experience includes informal education and programming\, advocacy\, and community outreach. Melissa’s work has allowed her to facilitate unique and lasting connections among organizations in the diverse Jewish non-profit community. \nMelissa oversees community education throughout the country\, training health care professionals\, Jewish professionals\, and Sharsheret’s volunteers. She also manages the Sharsheret’s Community Partnerships. Herself a two-time cancer survivor\, she is passionate about the Jewish community and cancer support and advocacy. \n \nBonnie Beckoff\, Sharsheret’s Director of Support Services\, is a graduate of Fordham University School of Social Work and has a background in outreach clinical services. Bonnie supports the delivery of Sharsheret’s cancer support programs. Bonnie advises and provides customized services to women who are diagnosed or at high risk for breast cancer or ovarian cancer as well as supports women living with metastatic breast and recurrent ovarian cancer. Bonnie provides emotional support\, information and resources\, and creates new\, innovative programs and resources to best meet their needs. \n \nThis program is in partnership with Sharsheret and made possible with generous support from Gilead Foundation.
