SUMMARY:Promoting Civil Discourse in Jewish Human Service Agencies Across Political Divides
DESCRIPTION:Cohort 1: Session 2 \nDesigned for CEOs\, executive leadership\, and HR professionals. Space is limited and first-come\, first-serve; we’re prioritizing professional leadership and HR staff\, with an initial limit of one participant per agency. \nWe have heard from countless member agencies that the ongoing societal tensions around both the current U.S. and Canadian political climates and the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East (plus related increase in antisemitic threats and physical violence) have crossed into day-to-day staff\, client\, and Board dynamics. \nThese challenges contribute to workplace and relationship tensions among the diverse staff working in Jewish human service agencies. Both Jewish and non-Jewish staff report discomfort and sometimes fear with colleagues’ views regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (both the current and historical situation\, the hostage crisis\, the casualties on both sides\, and the broader conflict with Iran and its proxies) and the political realities in the U.S. and Canada. There are also tensions working with clients who hold and express opposing views from clinicians and other professional staff working with them. \nLed by Resetting the Table\, this initiative provides training for Jewish human service agency professional leadership on civil discourse\, conflict resolution\, and communication skill building for collaborative conversations about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and current U.S. and Canadian political discourse\, and also skills to reduce anxiety and manage feelings when interacting with a colleague or client with opposing views. There will also be an educational component presenting various viewpoints on the conflict. \nThe outcome would be Jewish human service agencies’ building a culture of productive dialogue among diverse staff. Staff will be able to maintain cordial and receptive relationships while being able to express opposing viewpoints without engendering anger\, fear and/or anxiety. These skills will translate into their work with clients with opposing values/viewpoints.

SUMMARY:JOINT NETGroup: Emergency Financial Assistance & Case Management and Housing
DESCRIPTION:Topic: Opening the Door to Housing Opportunity \nWe are thrilled to offer an abbreviated version of the PowerNET 2025 workshop\, Opening the Door to Housing Opportunity – presented by Lisa Budlow\, CEO\, CHAI: Comprehensive Housing Assistance\, Inc and Anat Gogo\, Tikva Housing Society\, Vancouver. \nMany communities have identified housing as one of the top issues facing their clients. In order to serve the whole person and give other case management goals a good chance for success\, they have to connect their clients to housing opportunity that works for their budget and way of living. For many Jewish communal agencies\, housing is not a traditional area of service\, and the idea of becoming a housing provider is daunting. \nThis workshop will offer two models of service that fit well within the strengths and service models of Jewish human service agencies – no hard hats required! CHAI Baltimore will explain the role of housing counseling in connecting clients to the right rental or homeownership opportunity for them. We’ll share client stories of success and tell you how to bring this critically important service to your community. Tikva Housing Vancouver will share the success of their innovative transitional housing subsidy model and explain how you can set this up in your community to engage your donor community and benefit the clients you serve.
